How to install BMW DIS V57?

How to install BMW DIS V57?

If you can set up a basic home computer network or install software programs from a DVD then you shouldn’t have any problems installing BMW DIS V57 from our disc set. We provide a very comprehensive and detailed step by step instruction manual complete with screenshots showing you how to install and set up each program onto your PC or Laptop.

What interface do I need to connect my BMW or Mini Vehicle to BMW DIS?

There are three main interfaces which are compatible with BMW DIS V57, and the type required will depend on the model and age of the BMW vehicle(s) which you intend to connect it to. The three types of BMW interfaces are, (1) BMW ‘ADS’ interface, which is a round 20 pin connector often found under the bonnet (hood) of the vehicle. (2) OBDII interface, a rectangle interface found within the vehicle passenger compartment and (3) BMW D-Can  which is for newer BMW cars built after 2006/7 (E83 / E60 / E61 / R56 etc). More detailed information on BMW Interfaces, can be found on the Interfaces page.

Please Note:- Some Newer D-Can equipped vehicles, require two different interfaces for operation. These vehicles have a traditional OBD Style interface which is used with D-Can to read and diagnose errors, and also an additional Fibre Optic (OPPS) interface which is used for programming. On vehicles equipped with two D-Can and OPPS protocols, you will be able to diagnose with BMW DIS V57 using D-Can but you will not be able to program without a fibre optic OPPS interface.

Older vehicles without the BMW OPPS interface, can still be programmed and diagnosed through the standard OBDII port.

Do you supply installation instructions?

Yes, when you buy our BMW DIS V57 Software Package you also get a very comprehensive and detailed set of instructions, complete with screenshots showing how to install the software supplied on the DVD discs and how to set up both the virtual environment (which BMW DIS V57 operates under) and how to get BMW DIS V57 to connect to the Ediabas & D-Can interface. The instructions alone, avoid the need to read confusing, and often conflicting advice in relation to installing the software, which you may find scattered around the internet and you will save many hours / days / weeks, and avoid much hair pulling in frustration by following this detailed guide rather than the conflicting Ad-Hoc ones found elsewhere.

Is there a detailed instruction guide to actually operating BMW DIS V57?

Sadly no. Remember that you are using the same software as was originally intended only to be used by BMW Technicians, so there was never any need for a ‘user guide’ being produced and made available outside of the BMW environment as it was never intended to be used on a DIY basis. However a lot of the software operation and procedures are relatively user-friendly and self-explanatory and each system uses a menu driven system which is fairly easy to navigate and understand and the majority of people are able to carry out basic diagnostic and coding functions without issue.

However, if you didn’t have some knowledge of vehicle repairs and software operation, then you probably wouldn’t be on this website, or be considering doing your own BMW Diagnostics or have read this far!.  However, we would welcome a detailed ‘instruction’ guide being written and supplied to us, so if you would like to supply a ‘Dis V57 user guide’ for others to follow in relation to operating Dis V57 and its various functions, then please send it to us in PDF or Word format along with your paypal transaction reference number, and if the guide is acceptable and detailed enough for us to use in the future, then we will refund 50% of your original purchase price.
